On-screen appearances

Brett recently appeared on the BBC2 four-part series Making Slough Happy. As the onscreen psychotherapy expert in the series, he used both his psychological and his musical and songwriting skills to help improve the happiness levels of those living in Slough. In September 2005, Brett's film on the psychology of sexual fantasies was broadcast on Five. The programme, produced by Tiger Aspect Productions, was authored and presented by Brett.

He has made numerous other on-screen appearances. From 1985-1986, he presented his own psychology programme, Fifty Minutes, which ran for fifty-one weeks on American television, the first psychology news programme, which received many public service awards.

Upon his return to England, he appeared as an on-camera contributor on many documentaries containing psychological themes, and on numerous news programmes such as Breakfast for BBC1, Channel Four News, and Sky News.

Script Consultant

Brett served as the Psychotherapy Adviser and as a script consultant for BBC Birmingham's daytime drama Doctors, helping to bring accuracy to their portrayal of a leading character undergoing psychotherapy for post-traumatic stress disorder. Also for the BBC, he served as the Consultant to the two-part prime-time drama Green-Eyed Monster, a film about pathological jealousy. For this project, he advised the producer and the dramatist over the psychological veracity and motivations of the main characters. He also worked closely with the producer to develop a BBC helpline service for distressed callers after the transmission of the programme. He repeated this consultative role for the BBC 1 prime-time drama May 33rd (Endor Productions for the BBC) a penetrating examination of the psychology of Dissociative Identity Disorder (see official BBC website). In 2004, May 33rd won the Mental Health Media Award for Single Drama or Drama Serial, and received a nomination in the 2005 Broadcast Awards for Best Drama One-Off. May 33rd had also been selected for the European Film Festival in Biarritz, France, in 2005.
